Our mission at Jasmine's Smart House is to improve the lives of homeless pregnant women by providing a safe haven, support, education, tools and resources.
My reason for Jasmine's Smart House. Thank you to my children, Johnathan, Theresa, Kimberly and Michael. A special thanks to my late parents, Gary and Theresa Galloway. I dedicate this to you both, thank you .
Our vision at Jasmine's Smart House is that every pregnant woman will have an opportunity to grow, build, learn and heal-The Smart Way.
After years of struggle that included familial dysfunction, sexual trauma, domestic abuse, homelessness, and mental health challenges, Jasmine Galloway came to the realization that adverse circumstances should not permanently define her life, nor keep her from pursuing her dreams. Empowered by her love of people, and wanting to set an example for her children, in 2020 she founded Jasmine's S.M.A.R.T. House — a transitional home for pregnant, homeless women, in Raleigh, North Carolina. "It's about Survivors of Mental illness Actively walking in a Real Testimony," she says, when asked about the inspiration behind the name of her nonprofit. "I could never fit in, so I had to stand out.
Recalling how her mother told her before she died, "You can't help everybody, Jasmine," the determined young mother was nevertheless inspired to try. A giver from her youth, Jasmine began volunteering her time with challenged youth, initiating a number of programs to aid in their academic and social development. In similar fashion, her Smart House was founded to provide the practical necessities of healthy food, adequate shelter, medical care, and support services every mother-to-be deserves, along with instruction in a number of "life lessons" the founder learned in her climb from struggle to success. Designed to help new mothers get back on their feet, and stay there, Jasmine's S.M.A.R.T. House is poised to become an invaluable community resource.
Having been in such a position herself as a young, unwed mother, Jasmine's turnaround inspires other women to turn their pain into purpose, and ultimately make choices that will better their lives and their children's futures. "If I could live my life all over again, I honestly wouldn't change a thing," she says. "I had to go through the pain, the suffering, the heartache and the hard lessons, in order to help someone else."
“When there is no position in life, you make one."
